Coach Charles Thomas is in his 2^nd year at ZHS teaching mathematics and coaching freshmen football and track & field throwers. A Baton Rouge native and 1997 graduate of Southern University Lab School, his playing experience includes two letters and an All-District (HM) award as member of the 1996 State Champion football team at Southern Lab and a letter playing first base on the baseball team. He then became a 3-time Academic All-SEC/Honor Roll member of the LSU Football Team as a Defensive Lineman from 1997 to 2001. While at LSU, he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology with a minor in Math Education in 2001 and a Holmes Master of Teaching degree in 2002. After beginning his teaching and coaching career in Baton Rouge at Woodlawn High School, he earned a Doctor of Education degree from TCU in 2012. Coach Thomas’ coaching experience includes coaching high school football in Louisiana and New York; and coaching track and field in Louisiana. His athletics experience also includes refereeing high school football and basketball in Louisiana and Texas, and working in academic support for college student-athletes at TCU. Coach Thomas is married to Chanell (DeCohen), a native of New York City, and they have six children: Cydnee, Caidee, twins Caia and Claire, Corryn, and Charles Preston.
